Johann Heuffel Institute - Timisoara

Johann Heuffel Institute. Seed Bank and Agricultural Research Center, Timișoara.
The project aims to establish a new point of interest along the Bega Canal in Timișoara, consisting of a multifunctional complex that includes a seed bank, an agricultural research center, and additional related facilities such as a botanical garden, hotel, museum, and dendrological park.

The project is located on the former “Solventul” industrial platform, an area abandoned following the decline of heavy industry and currently covered in ruins. The intention is to reintegrate this area into the new urban structure while preserving its industrial character.

The silo on the canal bank is thus preserved and repurposed, serving as a city landmark and one of the few well-maintained buildings. Some of the ruins are also retained and integrated into the proposed new park, while the newly constructed buildings reference the former industrial equipment and installations through their exterior metal structures.
